Why Move to Mariposa?
A question was recently posed about whether he should move to Mariposa, so here are my thoughts:
We all live our personal lives within our minds and bodies, our internal geography, as well as within the physical geography where we choose (hopefully) to reside. I’m a “be here now” kinda man. I’ve chosen to live in places that offer the sounds of nature, clear and dark night skies, access to gardening, outdoor sports, a healthy lifestyle, good relationships, and more. Of course, health care is important, especially as we age, but we can get adequate primary care here, and when necessary, friends and I have gone to specialists in Merced, Fresno, and the Bay Area which is way more accessible than living in a rural place on Hawaii Island. And the care is better here when needed. Of course, our congressman, McClintock votes to take away affordable health care, so I’ll be voting for Jessica Morse on Nov. 6th.

Having returned from 25 years on Hawaii Island, people ask if I miss life there, and in some ways I do. But carrying a “be here now” attitude, I try to satisfy my wanderlust by traveling while keeping a home base. This seems to suit my temperament. There are a variety of friends here, and that circle continues to grow.
But what satisfies me might not appeal to someone with an insatiable wanderlust that needs to keep on the move. We have strong cultural conditioning for such a life-style.
You might want to plan a trip here to check out the different areas. You could camp at the Fairgrounds, down along the Merced River, up in Sierra National Forest, and more. Maybe come to a Board of Supervisors meeting on a Tuesday morning and come to a business meeting or those of some of our service clubs. The list can go on…
